Peugoet 106 xs m reg ENGINE PROBLEMS

was driving down the road the other day and the engine just cut out and i came to a stop. the AA man told me that the timing belt had gone which i nearly cried and didnt look myself as it was dark and wet and its his job not mine. i have now started to fix the problem myself as i enjoy working on engines,to which this morning discovered that the timing belt seems fine and tight. i removed the rocker cover to find that whist turning over the engine everything there seems fine to.... i checked the spark plugs and it seems that this is were my problems lie,, i am not getting any spark. does anyone have any idea to what i need to do now.
i have put the battery on conditional charge.

just to note this is a electronic distributer not the manual. im hopeing that the ECU is not the problem.
have also been informed that the electronic distributer requires a TDC sensor.where is this????
also been told that the ECU controls it all????

just to make sure the timing belt hasnt slipped im going to check for compression tommorrow. i will keep this blog up to date...
